Harris Accepts Invitation for Second Presidential Debate, Trump Declines #

Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed willingness to participate in a second presidential debate scheduled for October 23, less than two weeks before the November U.S. presidential election. The debate invitation was extended by a major news network.

The chair of Harris’s campaign for president confirmed that the Vice President has accepted the invitation. Harris herself took to social media to express her readiness for the debate, hoping her opponent would join her.

This isn’t the first time Harris’s team has proposed another debate. Following their first encounter earlier this month, her campaign indicated she was prepared for a second round. However, despite Harris’s campaign seeing a surge in fundraising after the initial debate, her opponent declined further face-offs.

The former president’s campaign reiterated his earlier statement that there would be “no third debate.” This stance was reaffirmed when asked for comment on Harris’s acceptance of the October debate invitation.

The first 2024 debate for the former president was against the current president, Joe Biden, in June. Biden’s performance in that debate raised concerns among Democratic donors and led to calls from some party members for him to end his election bid. Subsequently, Harris accepted the presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention in August.

Harris’s campaign chair emphasized that the proposed October debate would follow the same format and setup as the June debate, which the former president had previously praised for its moderators, rules, and ratings.

As the election approaches, the possibility of a second debate between the two candidates remains uncertain, with Harris ready to participate and her opponent maintaining his stance against further debates.
