After retiring five years ago, a renowned skier is rejoining the U.S. Ski Team, marking a surprising comeback to the sport. The 40-year-old athlete had initially intended to retire permanently after facing multiple injuries and surgeries. However, following a successful right-knee replacement surgery, she has returned to skiing without pain and aims to compete in upcoming World Cup races, leaving open the possibility of participating in the 2026 Olympics.

The skier celebrated significant achievements during her career, including three Olympic medals over two Games. Her accomplishments include a gold and bronze medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and another bronze at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics. Additionally, she is an eight-time world championship medalist. The 2026 Olympics, set to take place in northern Italy, could be her fifth appearance. Notably, her success at Cortina d'Ampezzo, the location of the upcoming Games, adds intrigue to this potential return.

While contemplating the possibility of competing in the 2026 Olympics, the skier expressed enjoyment and past success at Cortina d'Ampezzo, highlighting her fondness for racing at the venue. While not confirming her participation, she is open to the prospect, aligning her goals with enjoying the journey and possibly achieving more in her skiing career.

Previously holding the record for the most women's World Cup wins, she was surpassed by another skier who reached 97 victories by early 2023.
